Artist Comment: I am in awe of the wide range of colors potentially represented within the Pink Princess Philodendron. She is able to manifest in such a wildly, violently, disparate, incongruous way. Her variegations are nothing short of miraculous. They both blend and block: values and tones at once cohesive and oppositional. In the manner somewhat reminiscent of Japanese print-making, (a genre I seem to be drawn to), I painted this example superimposed on a field of codes or symbols which reflect or express my experience of her potential. Within the codes, I reveal that she simply strikes me this way.
