BLUE ORCHID
Oil on canvas, 102cm x 102cm, 2024
Artist Comment
During the winter of 2024, it appeared this little orchid withered and died. I placed it in a dark corner of our kitchen (on top of the rangehood) because I felt guilty for having misunderstood yet another orchid, which I generally adore. Remarkably, after three months of neglect, this beautiful, delicate, tiny discarded plant produced three fruitful stems with the purest white blooms emerging. I have left it in its place and I barely water her at all, for fear of interrupting her comfort and killing her with kindness again. Resilience is her nature and her beauty.
