Artist Comment
One day, my son came home from school describing the palm sized moth that flew into his hand at school that day. He marveled about the colors and patterns in the moth wings, and the docility and size of the creature. After admiring it for several minutes, he placed it in a nearby bush to protect it from birds and the sun. A week later, I saw an opportunity to celebrate Matariki (the Maori New Year) by submitting two works to the North Art Gallery Members Exhibition modelled after the marvelous Puripuri moth, native to New Zealand.
